Measurement

A cuboid measures 27 cm by 25 cm by 15 cm. Daryl said that the maximum number of 3 cm cubes that can be put in this cuboid is 375.

Do you agree with Daryl? Write down how you would explain your answer to him.

Mrs Ng can you please go to this website to see the answer for the question http://happialwazz.blogspot.com/

thank you.. sorry for the inconvenient cause...

No . The maximum number of cubes that can be put into the cubiod is not 375 but 360.

First , we take 27cm ( length of cubiod ) divided by 3cm ( length of cube )is 9 cm.

Second , we take 25cm ( width of cubiod) divided by 3cm ( width of cube ) is 8.3. So we take the nearest number which is 24.Then taking 24 divided by 3cn is 8cm.

Third , we take 15cm( height of cubiod ) divided by 3cm ( height of cubiod is 5cm.

LAstly we take all the divided length,width & height AND times them together ( 9 * 5* 8 ) . The answer is 360.

Hence the ,maxmimum nuber of cubes that can be put in is 360 not 375 .

i do not agree with Daryl's answer!

A cube has equal sides
therefore,all 3 sides = 3

Using the measurements of the cuboid, divided by the respective length of the cube,
we have
27/3=9
25/3=8.33
~8
15/3=5
to find the max number of cubes,
mulitiply all 3 answer :
9*8*5=360
Therefore,
the maximum number of cubes that can be placed in the cubiod is 360 cubes and not 375 cubes!

THe maximum number of cubes should be 360 instead of 375.

We should divide the length of the cuboid by the length of the cube.
Therefore it will be:
27/3=9

Then, divide the width of the cuboid by the width of the cube.
It will be:
25/3=8.33
rounded to 8

Next,we divide the height of the cuboid by the heigth of cube.
It will be:
15/3=5

In order to find the maximum number of cubes that can put into the cuboid,we multiply all the 3 answer we get from the division:
9*8*5+360

Thus the answer is 360.

i don't agree with the answer.even though when you multiply the area of cuboid and the area 375 of 3 cm cubes will give you the exact answer of 10125,but we must not forget that one of them is cuboid and the other is a cube.therefore,we must divide the sides of cuboid to the 3cm cubes.cubes have the same sides therefore,we must divided each sides by 3.

27/3=9
15/3=5
25/3=8.333
~8

then we use the divided sides to multilpy together to get the answer of 360.therefore, the maximum amount of cubes that can fit in the cuboid is 360.

No! i don't agree!

Firstly, the cubiod does not have 3 equal sides as the cube, thus, should not take (27 x 25 x 15) divide by (3 x 3 x 3) = 375 (wrong).

Next, we should take each side of cubiod divided by the 3cm, the side of cube, to find out how many cubes can fit in exactly.

: 27/3=9
:25/3=8.33 =8
:15/3=5

=9x8x5
=360.
The total number of cubes is 360!

i don't agree with what daryl had said.
The maximum number number of cubes allowed to be put in a cuboid is 360 rather tan 375. when we take 27x25x15, the answer is 10125.It is then divided by 3x3x3. The final is not 375.
In order to find out the number of cubes that can be fitted into each side of the cuboid, we take,
27/3=9
25/3=8.33(rounded off=8)
15/3=5

We multiply 9x8x5=360.
Therefore, the correct answer should be 360 and not 375.

i do not agree with Daryl's answer.

first, we divide the length of cubiod with length of cube
27 divided by 3= 9

then we divide the breadth of cubiod with breadth of cube
25 divided by 3= 8.33(2 decimals place)

thirdly, we divide the height of cubiod with height of cube
15 divided by 3= 5

therefore, maximum no. of 3cm cubes into cubiod is
9*8*5= 360

Everyone hates Daryl haha. I don't agree with him too. If the question was only on volume he may have been correct..

27/3 = 9(9 cubes height)
25/3 = 8 r 0.3(8 cubes length)
15/3 = 5(5 cubes width)
so we take the numbers multiplied together...
9*8*5=360
Therefore: We can only fit in 360 3cm cubes, and not 375 due to volume

i hate daryl(as if), thus i don't agree with him. haha.

firstly,
on the length of 27cm, there is only a maximum amount of nine 3cm cubes to be place there.
27/3 = 9
then the breath,
25/3 ~ 8
then the height,
15/3 = 5

if that is so. by multiplying this 3 values together, you can only get 360- 3cm cubes.
hmms, i think mine explain better right? =X

I disagree with what Daryl had said. As the maximum number of cube that can be put into this cuboid is actually 360 and not 375. We cannot use 27* 25 * 15 then divide 27 (the volume of the cube). The correct method that we should use is to divide all the side by 3 like 27 divide by 3 , 25 divide by 3 and 15 divide 3 the answer we get is 9, 8 remainder 1 and 5 respectively. Then we take the whole number multiply together like 9*8*5 and it will give us the answer 360. We shouldn’t use the 27*25*15 because if we use this method, not all the cube can be fix into the cuboid nicely. Therefore, I the answer for this question is not 375 it is actually 360.

No, I don't agree.

When 27 is divided by 3 = 9

When 25 is divided by 3 = 8 remainder 1

when 15 is divided by 3 = 5

mutiple them together you get 360

I understand that the answer is 360 and i know how to work it out but can someone tell me why we have to use that method and not Daryl's method?
